Welcome Back to School!!!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am excited to start this new school year with you and your child at Tazewell Primary School! I wanted to give you some information you might find helpful. A green folder will be sent home with your child daily; for your child’s academic success it is important that you look in this folder each day and return it to school with your child. It will contain graded assignments and homework, as well as communication from me to you.

The first bell rings at 7:50 a.m., and class begins at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are tardy and need to be checked in at the office. Students are dismissed at 3:00 p.m. Because the end of the day is a hectic time, no checkouts are allowed after 2:40 p.m. If your child’s afternoon routine changes, I must have a note informing me of this change. Electronic communication is not allowed as the primary source of this; you may send me a message through email or ClassDojo reminding me of a change, but I will need this in writing as well. I can’t always check messages during the day. In the event of an emergency change, contact the school office. I will also need a note if your child is absent from school.

Our daily schedule is as follows;

8:00 a.m. - 8:10 a.m. – Morning Work
8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. – Math
9:20 a.m. - 9:55 a.m. - Reading
10:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. – Resource
10:45 a.m. – 11:25 a.m. – Reading/Language
11:30 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. – Recess
11:55 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. – Science/Social Studies
12:16 p.m. – 12:41 p.m. – Lunch
12:55 p.m. – 1:55 p.m. – Direct Instruction//Enrichment
1:55 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. – Workshop
3:00 p.m. – Dismissal

Our class uses Class Dojo. Each student has login information that I’ve attached to this letter. Visit for more information. The website is free and is a wonderful way to keep parents involved daily without the hassle of writing notes. Parents can login from any smartphone or computer to see how their child is behaving. Teachers and parents can also message each other with any concerns. Please do not use this for transportation changes or expect immediate feedback to a message you send as our focus is on the students during the day.

Students will receive free breakfast and lunch this year. Extra items in the cafeteria are available at an additional cost. Ice cream money is collected in the classroom. This can be paid for daily, weekly, or monthly. Ice cream will be sometime in the afternoon after I’m able to determine what time works best with our schedule. The cost is $0.75. The flavors we have available are orange pushup, fudge bar, and sour cherry. Please place the money or check in a sealed envelope or plastic baggie with your child’s name, what the money is for, and the amount. We will begin taking ice cream orders after Labor Day. Instead of purchasing ice cream, students may bring a snack from home to eat during this time, but I ask that students not eat both a snack and ice cream during this time.

Water bottles are allowed, and only water will be allowed in the classroom except for special occasions. Bottles with closeable straw tops and sippy tops are recommended because lids that have to be unscrewed are easily spilled.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. My planning period is from 10:00 – 10:40 a.m. daily. You can reach me by calling the school (988-4441), email (, a Class Dojo message, or by sending a note with your child.

I am looking forward to working with you this year! It is going to be GREAT! Thanks for sharing your precious child with me and Tazewell Primary!
