The Latest Information from the School Nurse:

Dear Parent/Guardian of rising or enrolled MIDDLE SCHOOL students:

As of July 1, 2019, the Code of Virginia has changed the mandated requirement for TDAP in Virginia. Up until this time, the mandate applied to rising 6th grade students. The new mandate will require any student entering 7thh grade to receive a booster of a pertussis-containing vaccine prior to the first day of school of the 7th grade.

IF your child has received the TDAP booster prior to 6th grade, they will have met the requirement for 7th grade entry. We still will need proof of vaccination.

The only exemptions are:

  • Your child has a medical exemption due to allergic reaction, etc. to tdap. A letter from the health care provider stating this is the reason for the exemption MUST be provided prior to the first day of school of the 7th grade.

If your child gets the booster or gets the medical exemption completed by the health care provider PRIOR to the end to the school year, bring/send copies to your child's school. If this is completed over the summer, bring copies by the middle school where your child will be enrolled as a 7th grader in the fall.

YOUR 7th GRADE CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN at SCHOOL IF YOU DO NOT GET THE BOOSTER OR THE MEDICAL EXEMPTION PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL (August 2019).

Thank you,
